Alphabet Drabbles, Cleaning the Gutter
May. 28th, 2009 04:23 pmOne of many responses for the Alphabet Drabbles Meme.
Title: Cleaning the Gutter
Prompt: S is for Shower, for
essbeejay
Fandom: Powerpuff Girls
Character/Pairing: Reds
Rating: PG-13
No one notices when it starts raining. They register the precipitation, and they recognize it as rain, but they both fail to think through the consequences of being out in it, and Blossom especially is disappointed in herself. Brick is disappointed too, but for entirely different reasons. He’d thought himself made of sterner stuff.
“I’m up here,” Blossom grouses, crossing her arms over her chest in attempts to hide the (now very obvious) color of her bra. The rain has soaked her white button-up clean through, and it’s sticking to her like a second skin.
He manages to drag his eyes away, but he looks over his shoulder at the surrounding wreckage of the First International Bank of Townsville building instead of meeting her gaze. “I thought wearing a black bra under a white shirt was only something bad girls did.”
Blossom stiffens. “I wasn’t planning on getting rained on, thank you very much,” she grinds out, watching the smirk playing across his face.
“Man makes plans…” he quotes with a shrug, looking entirely too smug.
She‘s about to inform him that it’s laundry day, that she was preoccupied while dressing that morning, two tests – Euro History and AP Bio – and what business of it is his what she chooses to wear (or not to wear), he shouldn’t even be looking –
Then his jacket makes its way into her line of sight. He’s holding it out to her, one-handed, and he still won’t meet her eye.
Blossom swallows the lump in her throat as she takes it from him.

Date: 2009-06-08 05:38 pm (UTC)AND YET there's still that tension there, skulking around under the surface. Brick wishes he were made of "sterner stuff," he can't look at her while he talks to her, Blossom is upset about him even looking, that lump in her throat - very subtle, but still, there.
Maybe the best part is that this all happens because Brick tries to rob a bank. Hooray for cute, troublemaking boys!
METHINKS YOU ROCK.
