One-hundred and seventy four years ago today the brave volunteers defending the Alamo mission at San Antonio de Bexar, commanded by Col. William Barret Travis, were finally defeated by Santa Anna after thirteen days of fighting. They were shown no quarter, and their bravery and sacrifice became a rallying cry for the fledgling army of the newly independent Republic of Texas a month later when Sam Houston urged them to "remember the Alamo!"

Here is Travis' Letter wherein he appeals for aid, and vows never to surrender or retreat.

Just under 200 men holding off ten times their number for 13 days. Is it any wonder we think so highly of ourselves?

GUYS IT'S SNOWING. OR IT WAS EARLIER. AND IT STUCK.

(Thank you, Texas, for constantly keeping us on our toes!)

Nothing sours your mood quite like waiting in line on the phone.

Also, today's high is 105. God bless Texas.

And I swear I'm still gonna finish those alphabet drabbles! Just as soon as I have some time...

Today, off the side of 288 and 380, I saw my first bluebonnets of the spring. They were on the curb with some little pink buttercups, and it was only a tiny patch of them, but they still made me smile.

And for anyone who cares, I so totally fail at this whole "Read more then just Star Wars books" thing, because today on the bus I finished Edge of Victory II: Rebirth, which I started yesterday morning after finishing Edge of Victory I: Conquest, which I had started the day before yesterday. Meanwhile Neuromancer, which I've been reading on and off for about two weeks, is still about 100 pages from being done. Why can I not get away from this obsession? And New Jedi Order, of all things? It hurt me, so badly. Why did I go crawling back to it?

Well, it might be because I'm trying to write fic that's heavy on the Anakin/Tahiri. I fear one day very soon I will have to make an innane post about the EUAU timeline I have going in my head, because it looks like there's going to be a lot of fic set there. All things in time.
